A pair of large-sized Italian carved wood sculptures of angels. 19th century or earlier. Each polychromed figure is made from gessoed wood and is life size. The wings are attached as separate parts, screwed onto the backs of the angels. Their backs are flattened. Each figure is bearing gilded and silvered garlands of flowers and fruits and has silvered and gilded wings and hair. Very good condition but with damage to one knee and some cracks in the gessoed surface where the various wooden parts are seemed. A most unusual pair of sculptures which will become a focal point of any spacious hallway or great room. Size of each: 52 inches high x 35 inches wide x 22 inches deep.
