A large Hudson River school Luminist landscape painting in a very ornate carved gilt wood frame. Unsigned. Oil on canvas. 2nd half 19th century. Canvas size: 30 inches x 42 inches. A dramatic canvas in the Luminist style, with a dark, rocky pond in the foreground and a distant mountainous skyline glowing in shades of pink and yellow from the light of a setting sun. The frame bears a Philadelphia framer's label on the reverse. Condition: an old patch to a small puncture, visible from the reverse. This painting should brighten with a professional cleaning.
