Hannah Maria Hudson (British, c.1810-1865) - Portrait of Mrs. S.A. Butterfield. Oil on canvas. Dated February 1835. Size: 18 inches x 14 inches. Stenciled signature, title and date to the reverse of canvas. An attractive small work by the British female portrait artist, Hannah Maria Hudson. The sitter is identified on the reverse of the canvas. She is wearing a lace bonnet and a black dress, draped with a green shawl, and adorned with a pearl brooch. In her hand, she is holding a piece of her sewing, as indicated by the brass banded sewing box resting on the table beside her. A gold wedding band is prominently displayed on her left hand. Portraits by Hannah Hudson are in the permanent collections of the National Trust's Rufford Old Hall and the Bradford Museum. Condition is good overall, with some creases along the stretcher and craquelure to the surface.
