Early American Chippendale five-drawer tall chest with carved sunburst design. Circa 1780-1790. New Hampshire origin. Maple with some tiger figuring to the drawer fronts and sides. Brass bail handles. This New Hampshire Chippendale period tall chest has five graduated drawers. The deep top drawer has its drawer front carved to simulate four small drawers, plus a central carved sunburst. The chest is of a desirable small size, with the case measuring only 35.75 inches wide (overall width of 39 inches) x 55.75 inches high x 18.5 inches deep. Condition is very good, with drawer lips intact, and a bold bracket base with original carved glue blocks. There have been some glued repairs to the exteriors of the bracket base, using the original materials. Surface has been refinished but has a mellow color.
