Antique late Georgian mahogany knife box, with interior converted for stationery. English. Circa 1790-1810. Size: 12.5 inches H x 8 inches W x 8 inches D. Serpentine shaped front with sloping cover and black and white checked string inlay edging. There is a six-pointed star inlaid on the underside of the cover. Condition: very good, with restoration to some of the veneer and inlay (especially stringing on the back side of cover and veneer repair around the key hole); original hinges; missing silver ring on escutcheon of cover.
