Paul B. Pascal (French, 1832-1903) - Bedouin Encampment in the Sahara with Camels. Gouache on paper. Late 19th/early 20th century. Size: 16 inches x 22 inches (sight). Paul Pascal was an artist who specialized in Orientalist paintings. He worked almost exclusively in gouache and watercolor, and his favorite subjects were the nomadic Arabs of north Africa. In this painting, Pascal has depicted a group of bedouins camped by an oasis in the desert, where they are collecting water and playing music on wooden flutes, while their camels rest in the background. Condition is very good, with a couple of minor marks in the sky. Signed in the lower left. Offered in an antique grain painted frame. Matte has stains and is not acid free.
