Frederick Jonas Wilder (American, 1893-1977) watercolor painting of Ascutney Mountain, Vermont in Autumn with colors reflected in a pond. Circa 1940s. Size of sheet: 14 inches x 19 inches. Excellent condition and offered in a new frame with acid free matting. Frederick Wilder was born in Woodstock VT, the son of the innkeeper and artist Arthur B. Wilder, who was the long-time manager of the Woodstock Inn. Frederick graduated from Harvard College and its architectural graduate school. He is known for his watercolor and oil landscapes, both around the Woodstock area and along the coast of Maine. He was a member of the Wellesley Society of Painters in Massachusetts and the Portland Haylofters in Maine. In 1944, he won First Prize for his oil painting "Across the Valley." (Biographical data excerpted from AskArt archives.) This watercolor is unsigned but was part of a portfolio of paintings and drawings by Arthur and Frederick Wilder that was sold at auction for the Vermont Land Trust, which had been bequeathed these works by heirs of the artists' estates.
