Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) designed Picador cupel or small bowl sculpture, manufactured at the Madoura Pottery of Vallauris, France. Circa 1954. Edition of 100. Ceramic with green and black oxidized paraffin decoration of a Picador with lance astride his horse. The bull fighting theme was a favorite of Picasso and reminded him of his Spanish heritage. Impressed on the underside with the stamps 'Madoura Plein Feu' and 'Empreinte Originale de Picasso.' Also with molded date on the front 30.1.54 for January 30, 1954. Size: 7 inches diameter x 2.5 inches ht. Condition: a small flake on the inner edge of the rim and a couple of glaze nicks on the foot ring.
