Marion Huse (American, 1896-1967) painting of a Tugboat in a Harbor, oil on masonite, 9 inches x 10 inches. Circa 1920s-30s. Marion Huse was a Massachusetts and Vermont painter and printmaker who worked in a variety of styles, from realism to abstraction. Her subjects included portraits, landscapes and floral still life. Born in Lynn, Mass., she studied in Boston at the New School of Design and then in Pittsburgh at the Carnegie Institute. In the 1920s, she studied at the Cape Cod School of Art with Charles Hawthorne, and then, in 1925, became the founder of an art school in Springfield, Mass. Huse eventually relocated to Pownal, Vermont, where she maintained a studio. Excellent condition. Signed in lower right.
