An impressionistic landscape of a bridge over a river by the tonalist artist Alexis Comparet. Comparet studied under Benjamin Constant in Paris in 1874 and travelled widely, including New Mexico and his home state of Colorado, where he studied with Harvey Young.

English George III era Old Sheffield silver plated meat dome cover with robust gadrooned border and removable cast acanthus leaf-form handle.
The cover is adorned with a full armorial engraved into a plaque of solid sterling silver which has been let into the cover in order to prevent any underlying copper from showing through the engraved family armorial.
