| "When Fast Horses Mean Red Meat", a painting by Byron B. Wolfe (American, 1904-1973), watercolor on paper, dated 1969. This painting depicts Native Americans on horseback hunting bison with bows and arrows. It is signed in the lower left and is mounted in its original mat, which bears the title described above and an original painted remarque portraying the successful hunters returning with their prizes to the tribe's camp. It also bears the notation "From the Sketch Book of Byron B. Wolfe." Excellent condition, and free of any foxing, fading or creasing. On the reverse of the painting is a note card penned by Wolfe, describing the subject of the painting. Byron Wolfe was a noted painter and illustrator of Western life, who specialized in depictions of cowboys. He resided in Kansas, where he maintained a commercial studio, and was living in Leawood when this painting was created in 1969. Image size: 11" x 15.75". Mat size: 16" x 20".
