Grant Wood signed lithograph, July Fifteenth, 1938
July Fifteenth by Grant Wood (American, 1891-1942), original stone lithograph, signed by the artist in pencil in lower right margin, 1938, edition of 250, image size 9" x 11 7/8". Condition: excellent, with archival framing, and retaining the original label of the Associated American Artists who published it. Grant Wood was a midwestern artist, who spent most of his life in Iowa. He was a co-founder of the Stone City Art Colony and became a professor of art at the University of Iowa. However, he also studied in Paris at the Academie Julian, and it was as a result of this experience that he developed the style for which he is best known, using distorted and elongated perspectives, and geometric shapes. He was committed to depicting the landscapes and lifestyles of the Iowa farmer.
