| An impressionistic landscape painting of a river in winter by Aaron Harry Gorson (American, 1872-1933), oil on canvas. Circa 1920. Signed lower right: A.H. Gorson. Canvas size: 14 inches x 17 inches. This painting has been professionally restored and relined and is offered in a modern gilt wood frame. Aaron Harry Gorson was of Lithuanian descent and immigrated to Philadelphia in 1888. In 1894 he enrolled at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, studying under Anshutz. In 1900, he attended the Academie Julian in Paris under Constant and Laurens. His early works focused on depictions of the steel industry along the rivers of Pittsburgh. In 1921, Gorson moved to New York and began painting views of the city and the Hudson River. He remained there until his death in 1933. | ||
