Eric Tobin - 'Old Fashion VT Winter, Pleasant Valley, Cambridge.' Oil on canvas. Size: 30 inches x 36 inches. Offered in a modern silver leaf wood frame. Age: 2015. Signed in lower left and titled on reverse. A view of Mt. Mansfield, Vermont in winter, looking from Pleasant Valley to the north, depicting a farm with red barn and stream. Eric Tobin is a contemporary Vermont landscape artist. He resides in the northern part of the state, in Johnson. Tobin was greatly influenced by another Vermont painter, Thomas Curtin, whom Tobin knew from his childhood and from whom he received his first set of paints. Tobin paints entirely 'en plain air', or outdoors while actually viewing his scene. Tobin is largely self-taught, but did receive one-on-one instruction from Fred M. Hines, a marine artist in Maine, who later moved to Johnson, VT.
