Bernard Corey (American, 1914-2000) - Misty Harbor marine painting of lobster fishermen repairing their traps. Oil on masonite. Size: 9 inches x 14 inches. Signed in the lower right. Paintings of coastal views were uncommon subjects for Bernard Corey, even more so, when they include figures, as in this example, where fishermen are shown repairing their lobster pots on an early misty morning. This small painting is in excellent condition and is offered in a contemporary gilt plein air Whistler style frame. Bernard Corey was a New England 'plein air' landscape painter of the twentieth century. Born in Grafton, Massachusetts, he painted across New England and was a member of the Rockport Art Association, the Salmagundi Club, the American Watercolor Society, Allied Artists of America, Guild of Boston Artists and many other prestigious organizations. He painted with other New England artists, including Emile A. Gruppe, Aldro Hibbard and Paul Strisik.
