Dennis Sheehan (American, born 1950) - Place of Peace. Oil on linen. Size: 10 inches x 8 inches. Signed in lower right. Excellent condition; offered in a contemporary gilt wood plein air frame; titled on verso. Dennis Sheehan is a contemporary painter of tonalist landscapes, whose work is inspired by George Inness. His paintings are in many public and private collections, including the White House. He attended the Montserrat College of Art in Beverly, MA and the Vesper George School of Art in Boston. He studied under Robert Cormier and Richard Whitney and is a member of the Guild of Boston Artists. He currently maintains a gallery in Manchester, NH (Source: "American Artist", Oct. 2003). This small, but dramatic, tonalist work is typical of his style and subject, capturing the glow of a setting sun over a marshy pasture.
