Maximilien Luce impressionist landscape painting
$4,950

Maximilien Luce (French, 1858-1941) post-Impressionist landscape painting of a French village with haystacks. Oil on artist board. Signed in the lower right and dated 1903. Size: 13 inches x 18 inches. Condition: as-found, and would benefit from a professional cleaning; some minor paint loss along lower margin. Luce was born in Paris and trained in his early years as an engraver. Later, he entered the studio of Carolus-Duran, where he met and befriended important Impressionist painters such as Camille Pissarro, Georges Seurat and Paul Signac. Luce was one of the founders of the Neo-Impressionist School (Pointillism), and he is best known for his pointillist works. Maximilien Luce is an important figure in French Post-Impressionist Art. His paintings are included in such prestigious collections as the Musee D'Orsay, Paris; Metropolitan Museum, New York; National Gallery of Art, Washington D.C; National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa; Petit Palace, Geneva; and many other prestigious institutions.
