Circa 1953. "Petite Peinture Cubiste" was originally painted by Jacques Villon in 1921. This silkscreen was printed in 1953, in a limited edition of 300 prints, in Paris, by Wilfredo Arcay, and was issued in the folio, Edition Art D'Aujourd'hui: Maitres de L'Art Abstrait (Art of Today: Masters of Abstract Art), Album I (Boulogne) as number 16 of 16 screen prints. This print is signed by the artist in pencil in the margin. Condition: very good, an untrimmed sheet, with tack holes in the corners. Marked on the reverse with an inked stamp of the Public Library Brookline, Massachusetts, together with the library's catalog number in pencil, also on the reverse. Offered in new museum standard framing. Jacques Villon (actually Gaston Emile Duchamp) turned to painting after 1908 and was influenced by Edgar Degas and Toulouse-Lautrec. He became an advocate of Cubism and was a member of the group of French artists, Section d'Or.
