| A very scare smoker's table/stand from the Black Forest region of Germany. Circa 1890-1900. Carved from Linden wood. The pedestal is in the form of a tree trunk supported on three branches, on which a large bear is climbing. This bear is realistically modeled, with glass eyes, and has a hinged head that reveals a cigar humidor inside. The quatrefoil shaped top has a border of carved and pierced branches and supports three more smaller bears. One seated bear forms a pipe stand with its paws, another sits atop a music box that is still functioning, while a third walking bear rests on the cover of a cigarette box. The stand is missing its round brass ashtray and has been professionally restored and waxed. There are a couple of cracks in the top, two ears have been replaced, and a split in the large bear's body has been filled. These repairs have been skilfully performed. Size: 34 inches ht. x 17.5 inches length x 13.75 inches depth. | ||
