SOLD 

A contemporary match safe fashioned in the shape of a hound's head in sterling silver, London, by silversmith David A. Bowles, 2004. This match safe or vesta case is a contemporary copy of a Victorian original. It is very detailed and of heavy weight. The dog's collar hinges open to reveal the matches inside, and there is a striker under the chin. Fully hallmarked for London, 2004. Size: 2 inches length x 1.25 inches depth x 1 inch ht. Excellent original condition, with no damage.

Decorative berry spoon in the Ivory pattern by Whiting, fashioned in sterling silver with an ornate gilded and chased bowl and with a carved ivory handle, which retains most of its original brown patination. This pattern, #2888, was designed by Charles Osborne and was patented in 1890. Incised owner's monogram on handle. Excellent original condition, with no damage, dents, breaks, or repairs. A large English majolica pitcher decorated with two pink wild roses on green leaf stems placed on a brown tree bark background, with twig handle. Circa 1880. Unmarked but possibly by Holdcroft. The interior with a light green glaze. Excellent condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. There is a pin head size burst glaze bubble on handle thumb rest and some minor crazing on base. Flora Danica porcelain covered custard cup by Royal Copenhagen. Dated 1916. Size: 3.25" height x 2.5" diameter. Flora Danica is one of the finest of porcelain patterns. The original service was commissioned by the Danish king, Christian VII, in 1790, as a gift for Empress Catherine the Great of Russia. A rare French porcelain figural inkstand in the form of a grazing cow, 19th century. This inkstand has a removable inkwell and sander and is modeled in the form of a grazing cow, complete with horns and bell, decorated in polychrome enamels, with overglaze gilt accents. It bears a blue pseudo Sevres mark on the underside. Continental, probably of French origin. Rare Gorham Arts & Crafts sterling silver sauce gravy ladle in a hammered surface and with mixed metals design on the handle of two cherries, leaf and twig in bronze, and with a second leaf in gilded silver. Circa 1885. Excellent condition. Marks: stamped with the Gorham logo (lion, anchor, G) "sterling & other metals", and with the name of the retailer George H. Ford. Size: 6" length.
