Helen Hyde was a pioneer of color woodblock printmaking in America. In 1899, she traveled to Japan where she remained for 15 years. There she studied with the master printmaker Kano Tomonobu. French sewing etui fashioned in the form of a jade glass egg with gilt brass mounts, including the original sterling silver sewing tools: thimble, needle case, stiletto, scissors, and bodkin. The etui is suspended from a brass chain with finger ring. 19th century. Size: 3 inches length x 2 inches diameter. Condition: some wear to gilding on brass mounts. A contemporary match safe fashioned in the shape of a hound's head in sterling silver, London, by silversmith David A. Bowles, 2004. This match safe or vesta case is a contemporary copy of a Victorian original. It is very detailed and of heavy weight. The dog's collar hinges open to reveal the matches inside, and there is a striker under the chin. Fully hallmarked for London, 2004. Size: 2 inches length x 1.25 inches depth x 1 inch ht. Excellent original condition, with no damage.

Decorative berry spoon in the Ivory pattern by Whiting, fashioned in sterling silver with an ornate gilded and chased bowl and with a carved ivory handle, which retains most of its original brown patination. This pattern, #2888, was designed by Charles Osborne and was patented in 1890. Incised owner's monogram on handle. Excellent original condition, with no damage, dents, breaks, or repairs. A large English majolica pitcher decorated with two pink wild roses on green leaf stems placed on a brown tree bark background, with twig handle. Circa 1880. Unmarked but possibly by Holdcroft. The interior with a light green glaze. Excellent condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. There is a pin head size burst glaze bubble on handle thumb rest and some minor crazing on base. This full length unsigned portrait of a British officer in uniform, with dress sword and cap, is identified by an early label, affixed to the stretcher, as "Benjamin Everard, Ensign 21st Foot, 25 Feb. 1813, served in the Marahtta War." A Northern Plains native American pipe with a carved Catlinite bowl and original twisted reed stem. Circa 1870-80. Overall length: 30". The twisted stem has brass tack decoration at the bowl end and attaches to an elbow shaped red Catlinite pipe bowl. Excellent condition, except for a hole in the twisted reed stem.
