Very scarce De la Democratie en Amerique by Alexis de Tocqueville, 4 vols. Paris: Librarie de Charles Gosselin, 1836 and 1840. Volumes 1 and 2 are third editions (1836), and Volumes 3 and 4 are second editions (1840). Quarter bound in green leather with marbleized front and back boards. Some chipping and tears to spines and foxing to some pages. Size: 8.5 inches x 5.25 inches. The earliest treatise on the newly founded democracy in America.

This large canvas captures the glory of New Hampshire's fall foliage with red sugar maples lining the bank of Lake Sunapee and with mountains visible on the distant horizon. Victorian art glass biscuit jar, American, in a satin finish and hand painted in enamels with ornamental blossoms. The silverplated cover is adorned with repousse decoration. Unmarked. Late 19th century. Size: 6 inches in diameter x 6 inches high. Excellent condition, no chips. There are a couple of tiny dents to the silver rim, but these are not visible when the cover is in place.

American art glass biscuit jar signed by Smith Bros. Circa 1870s-1880s. The jar has a satin finish and is hand painted in enamels with floral designs of daisies. The rim and swing handle are fashioned in silver plate but are unmarked. The jar is marked on the underside with the red lion stamp of the company. Excellent condition, with no chips or cracks. Size: 4.5 inches in diameter x 6.5 inches high.

Victorian sterling silver wine jug by Martin Hall and Co., London, 1881-1882, with all-over Moorish inspired floral and geometric engraving. Excellent condition. Hallmarked under spout. The bone insulators on the handle suggest that this ewer might have been for a heated drink, such as mulled wine. Size: 11 inches high x 4.5 inches x 4 inches. No monogram. No damage or repairs.

Rare pair of early Staffordshire lion with lamb figurines, early 1800s in age. Wonderful primitive modeling to faces and manes. Possibly by Lloyd Shelton. Condition: Chip to mane on one lion's face, possible restoration to mane on back of one figure (see photo detail), and old restoration to chip on corner of one base. Size: 4.5 inches long x 2.9 inches deep x 4 inches high.

Tiffany Studios, New York, gilt bronze four-piece desk set in desirable abalone pattern. Circa 1900-1920. This set includes a large octagonal inkwell #1157, pen tray #1159, paper clip #1165, and two-slot letter rack #1151. There is some general wear to the gilding on all pieces, the inkwell has a replacement glass insert, and one of the abalone inlay pieces on the cover of the inkwell has been substituted with a domed piece of mother of pearl; otherwise the set is in very good condition.
