George III sterling silver helmet-form milk jug, London, 1790, by Joseph Scammell, with engraved bright-cut decoration with cartouche displaying interlaced initials in a fancy Gothic style script, and supported on a square base. Fully hallmarked. Very good condition apart form a repair to the handle. Dimensions: 6 1/8 inches high x 4 3/8 inches across spout x 2 1/4 inches deep.

Revolutionary War era, 1778, bond issued by the State of Massachusetts Bay and promising to pay Isaac Marshall interest at the rate of 6% per annum for the loan of 104 pounds, 2 shillings, a substantial sum for that time. This document is a fine example of the art of the copperplate engraver and has an elaborate border with trimmed and shaped counterfoil on the left side and a wonderful vignette of a patriot brandishing a sword and encircled by a rattlesnake with thirteen rattles. A painting of a Parisian street scene bearing the signature of Antoine Blanchard (French, 1910-1988), oil on canvas, 16 inches x 20 inches. This subject was a favorite of Blanchard's, who studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. However, we do not guarantee this to be the work of Blanchard, although it bears his signature in the lower right, and we have priced it accordingly.
