A Renaissance Revival library table in walnut with wonderful carved and pierced acanthus leaf decoration to either end support. The medial stretcher supports three beautifully proportioned turned and carved balusters, and a gadrooned frieze reveals two real and two faux drawers with oak interior, again with acanthus decorated wooden pulls. English mahogany reading stand. Circa 1850. This stand features a finely turned pedestal that supports a reading surface with opposing fold-up slopes and brass page restraints. The reading height adjusts in increments from 29" to 40.5", and there is a single frieze drawer at one end. Superb condition.
